What is hearing loss?

Many people ignore the symptoms of hearing loss for far longer than you might expect.

Do you find that you miss bits of conversation or have to turn the TV up louder than the rest of the family? You may have found yourself making excuses: blaming the quality of the phone connection, the acoustics of the room or accusing people of mumbling when speaking to you.

If any of these symptoms seem familiar – it’s important for you to see one of our hearing specialists as soon as possible. Chances are, you could be among the four million people in the UK who could benefit from a hearing aid, but are yet to be diagnosed.

There are two main types of hearing loss: the most common is ‘Sensorineural’, the second is ‘Conductive’.

Sensorineural hearing loss can be the result of simple ageing, exposure to high noise levels or from a previous infection of the inner ear. You might not even have realised you have this type of hearing loss, as you will experience very gradual hearing deterioration over a long period of time.

A personally-tailored hearing aid could potentially make a significant difference to your everyday life if you are suffering with sensorineural hearing loss.

Conductive hearing loss is more likely the result of a problem with the outer ear. In many cases, this type of hearing loss can be corrected through pharmaceutical or surgical means.

  Went for an earwax removal this morning. I was firstly warmly welcomed into the comfortable waiting area where I also had the privilege of meeting bear the dog! It wasn’t long at all until I was seen, and the man who did the removal could not have been friendlier, more helpful or more reassuring. I was spoken through every step of the process (which in total took a maximum of ten minutes!!) and all of my questions were answered with the upmost professionalism. My wax proved slightly ‘sticky’ so water irrigation was opted for, and the relief I felt when my ears became functional again was second to none! Thank you all so much. Cannot recommend enough.

  Our 15 year old autistic son had concerns with the hearing in his right ear, and it was causing him anxiety and preventing him from concentrating on his studies. We struggled to find somewhere that would conduct a hearing test due to his age until we came across Bryce Hearing. They saw him within 24 hours, treated him with respect, clearly explained what was happening throughout and put his mind at ease. He left knowing that his hearing was fine and that the issue was likely a residual effect of a cold from a number of weeks previously. We could not have been happier with the service we received and would highly recommend Bryce Hearing to anybody who has hearing related concerns, especially for those with children or young adults who may not be served by major high street companies.
